From the 6th through to the 12th of June, thirty movies and a retrospective of filmmaker Ann Hui will be on show in Barcelona. The Casa Àsia Film Week takes over from the Barcelona Asian Film Festival (BAFF) in order to introduce the Catalan audience to the movie industry of one of the most active filmmaking areas in the world.

The British film director Peter Greenaway was the guest of honour at the international documentary festival that took place in Barcelona from the 1st to the 6th of February. Lluís Miñarro’s documentary film ‘Finisterrae’ scooped a top award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. The film is directed by the manager of the International Sònar Music Festival in Barcelona, Sergio Caballero. This was his first ever movie and it was actually the image of last year’s Sónar Festival. Rotterdam’s jury awarded ‘Finisterrae’ impressed for its riskiness.
Eduard Fernández won Best Actor while 'Heroes' finished empty handed despite being nominated in ten categories.
The Gaudí Awards, which are the equivalent to the Catalan Oscars are taking place tonight for the 3rd consecutive time. The movie ‘Pa Negre’(Black Bread), which was nominated this year for the Spanish Goya Awards, is tipped to win with no less than 15 nominations followed by ‘Herois’ (Heroes) and ‘Buried’.
The movie has also been nominated 15 times for the Catalan Gaudí Awards, in Barcelona. 'Pa Negre' (Black Bread) is a film adaptation of a novel with the same title by Emili Teixidor.
‘Extraordinary Film Studios’ may open its doors as early as 2011 and employ some 80 people. The company already has three films scheduled for the new studios.
