The spokesperson for the government of Catalonia, Jordi Turull, called the Spanish government’s actions today “an international scandal.”

Turull further stated that world leaders have expressed their concern about what he qualified as “an authentic savagery.” The spokesperson further stated that “the Spanish government is the shame of all of Europe,” and speculates that, indeed, Spain will have to answer to international courts for their actions today.

Unnecessary violence for just material

Turull also addressed Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría’s statement that “Actions were taken against electoral material, never against people.” The Catalan government spokesperson countered that the actions weren’t “to seize (voting) material like someone said,” as in fact he argues that none of this police violence would have been necessary if that was all that the Spanish police intended to do.
