124 cases of coronavirus in Catalonia

Latest figures are from Spanish Health Department, in whole of Spain cases number 1,622

Spain's health ministry says there are now 124 coronavirus cases in Catalonia.

The figures released early on Tuesday afternoon say that the total number of cases in the whole of Spain is 1,622, with 35 deaths recorded.

Catalan health department's latest figures, released on Monday, showed that 101 people had been infected with Covid-19, a quarter of whom are health workers.

There have been three coronavirus-related deaths in Catalonia; an 87-year-old woman died on Friday, and the deaths of a 97-year-old man and an 88-year-old woman were announced on Monday.

Measures

Spain's government has banned all commercial incoming flights from Italy from tomorrow, and the Spanish Congress has canceled all activity for this week.

Also on Tuesday it was announced that FC Barcelona’s upcoming Champions League match against SSC Napoli would be played behind closed doors at the Camp Nou.

The head of Barcelona's doctors' association (CoMB) has appealed to individual and collective responsibility in containing coronavirus in order to "minimize" the impact of the outbreak, in an interview with the Catalan News Agency.
