Over three million people in Catalonia have had at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, a number accounting for 38.5% of the country’s 7.8 million inhabitants.

According to the latest figures released on Sunday, 1,657,928 people have also received the second shot, and the number of residents fully immunized (which also includes people who contracted the virus and later received a jab) stands at 1,765,461, representing 22.6% of the total population.

The overwhelming majority of people over the age of 50 have received at least one dose, and earlier this week health authorities confirmed that those aged 45-49 can already book an appointment

Despite a slow start, the inoculation campaign has gained speed over the past months, and health officials are hoping to extend the vaccination rollout to all residents no matter their age group throughout summer. (If you’re a migrant residing in Catalonia but have no healthcare card, you’ll need to apply for the CatSalut public health card before you can book an appointment to get a vaccine.)

No deaths for second day in a week

For the second time in a week, health authorities in Catalonia reported no deaths caused by the virus on Sunday, with the tally currently standing at 22,203 deaths since the first wave of the pandemic in March 2020.

The number of Covid-positive patients in hospitals has been decreasing almost uninterruptedly for one month straight, and currently stands at 590, representing a new 10-month low.

There are 205 people in ICUs for coronavirus-related complications, the lowest number since last October.

The indicator measuring the risk of new Covid-19 outbreaks has stabilized around 110 points, barely above the ‘high’ threshold, having reached 904 during the second wave of the pandemic and 794 last January.
