Over 40% of residents now have at least one Covid vaccination dose
24.3% are now fully immunized as the rollout scheme continues to pick up pace, with a record 125k jabs given on Tuesday
A total of 40.5% of Catalan residents now have at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccination administered, as the rollout scheme continues to pick up pace.
Some 24.3% of the population are considered fully immunized, that is, either with two doses given to them, one shot of the Janssen vaccine, or else one dose of another brand after they have already recovered from the coronavirus.
Meanwhile, 22.8% of the population have had two doses given.
Tuesday saw a record 125,106 jabs given, the most in a single day since the start of the vaccination campaign.
The improvement of the pandemic situation also led to the Spanish government agreeing to lift all state-wide restrictions on bars, restaurants, and nightclubs on Wednesday, thus leaving regional authorities fully in control of the de-escalation plan.
Pandemic indicators improving
The number of patients in intensive care due to Covid-19 has now decreased to 193, as this week that number fell below 200 for the first time in eight months.
Likewise, the number of hospitalized patients due to the virus is the lowest it's been since last August, 547, and has been steadily declining for over a month.
On Monday, the outbreak risk fell below 100 for the first time since last summer, and it continues to decrease steadily and currently stands at 88.
The outbreak risk is considered to be low at 30, moderate at 70, high at 100 and very high at 200. It is calculated using an iEPG index - found by multiplying the average spread of the virus over the past seven days by the cumulative incidence over the past two weeks.
