Barcelona will host the 2024 Michelin Guide award ceremony at the International Convention Center (CCIB) on November 28 this year.

The Catalan capital has been chosen for its "traditional gastronomy, uniting a cosmopolitan style full of creativity and constant innovation," as announced during a ceremony at Barcelona's Maritime Museum on Tuesday.

This edition will be the first to only award restaurants in Spain, leaving Portuguese restaurants waiting for a separate yet-to-be-announced ceremony.

"Barcelona is the Spanish city with the highest number of Michelin stars. In total, there are 24," Miguel Perera, the Michelin Guide sales and marketing director, said during the ceremony on Tuesday.

"Overall, 70 restaurants have some sort of distinction," he added.

The award ceremony will serve dinner for 700 people curated by Michelin-awarded chefs Jordi Cruz, Javier and Sergio Torres, and Paolo Casagrande, all of whom have restaurants in the Catalan capital.

Four 3-star Michelin restaurants

The announcement to host the Michelin award ceremony follows the big success seen in the 2023 edition of the guide, where a total of 53 different restaurants in Catalonia were granted one, two, or three stars.

Overall, 69 stars were awarded to Catalan restaurants, five more than the previous year.

Barcelona's Cocina Hermanos Torres, led by the famed Torres twin brothers, received the biggest news as they jumped from two stars up to the gastronomic elite, joining Jordi Cruz's ABaC, the Roca brothers' Celler de Can Roca, and Martín Berasategui's Lasarte —with Casagrande as the cook— with three Michelin stars.

The other eight restaurants with two kept their distinctions, and 41 more appeared in the guide with one star – five of them for the first time.
