The World Airport Awards is an independent study based on the largest annual global airport customer satisfaction survey, this year with 12.85 million customers. The questionnaire evaluates passenger satisfaction for airport service and products across 39 indicators, including check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration or departure at the gate.

The prize was given at a reception in Barcelona during the “Passenger Terminal EXPO”, held in the Catalan capital at the end of March. In the southern Europe category, Barcelona is followed by Istanbul Atatürk Airport, in Turkey; and the third position is for Madrid Barajas Airport. Furthermore, Barcelona El Prat is in 7th position in the “World’s best airport serving 30-40 million passengers” category.

In the global category, Changi Airport in Singapore has been voted as the World's Best Airport for the second year in a row. Seoul's Incheon International Airport is the next on the list, and the third one is also the first in Europe, Munich Airport. On this list, Barcelona Airport is in 38th position of the 410 airports evaluated.
