In Igualada, some 50 km west of Barcelona (in Central Catalonia), the neighbourhood called Rec is characterised by its old tanneries and textile factories which were forgotten after years of great activity. Now, the organisers of ‘Rec Stores’ have transformed these spaces into fashion shops. For three days, brands such as Sita Murt, Custo Barcelona and Desigual have sold their latest fashion clothes and accessories. One of the organisers, Jordi Ribaudí, explained that the objective of ‘Rec Stores’ is to “unveil the neighbourhood, giving life to it and structuring it as a part of the city”.

The contract signed by Qatar Sports Investment and FC Barcelona foresaw the possibility of including a new sponsor on the shirt of the club’s football first team from the third season of the agreement. Barcelona’s Contemporary Art Museum re-arranges its collection with a new exhibition

The new exhibition of the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA), ‘Critical Episodes (1957-2011)’, shows the last decades’ deep and historical changes through art. This exhibition is the result of a new arrangement of the MACBA’s collection. It displays about 200 works by 64 artists such as Eduardo Chillida, Hans Haacke, Mike Kelley, Antoni Tàpies, Jaume Plensa, Susana Solano and Oriol Vilapuig, amongst others. MACBA’s Director, Bartomeu Marí, has highlighted that this new exhibition “brings out new works and others that were displayed a long time ago”. It also proves that MACBA’s collection is already “rich, mature and diverse”.

Barcelona El Prat Airport received 30.7 million passengers in the first 10 months of the year

The number of passengers going through Barcelona’s Airport between January and October grew by 4%, compared to the same period last year. In just 10 months, the airport of the Catalan capital had more passengers than in the entire of 2010. The number of international passengers increased by 6.2% and those coming from the Middle East, non-Schengen Europe and Argentina grew by 25%. In fact, Barcelona El Prat’s expansion strategy is focused on international flights, especially increasing the number of intercontinental flights and their destinations. However, the number of domestic flight passengers dropped by 11.1%.
