Tito Vilanova to undergo surgery this Thursday for his cancer relapse

FC Barcelona’s Medical Services announce that Barça Manager, Tito Vilanova, has a suffered parotid ailment relapse. Vilanova will undergo surgery on Thursday. Later on he will receive chemotherapy and radiation treatment for approximately six weeks. The treatment may be compatible with Vilanova’s work life.

Barcelona (FCB).- Barça Medical Services announced this Wednesday that Barça Manager, Tito Vilanova, has a suffered parotid ailment relapse. Vilanova will undergo surgery on Thursday. Later on he will receive chemotherapy and radiation treatment for approximately six weeks. The treatment might be compatible with his professional life. Vilanova went through surgery for a parotid gland cancer a year ago, on 22nd of November 2011.


FC Barcelona Medical Services have issued the following medical report on the health of FC Barcelona’s manager, Francesc ‘Tito’ Vilanova:

“An extension of the pathology has been detected in [Vilanova’s] parotid gland. The manager requires surgery which he will undergo this Thursday. He is expected to remain in hospital for three to four days.

After the surgery, Francesc ‘Tito’ Vilanova will undergo chemotherapy and radiation treatment for approximately six weeks. During this time, and depending on how well he recovers, Vilanova’s treatment may be compatible with his work life.

Keeping in line with the patient’s wishes, we urge respect and privacy during this process.”

FC Barcelona President Sandro Rosell and the Catalan club’s Director of Football Andoni Zubizarreta will hold a press conference at 19.45 (CET) at the Barça’s Ciutat Esportiva. The press conference will be broadcast live on Barça TV.
