Éric Abidal to have a liver transplant

FC Barcelona player will have a liver transplant in the next few weeks. Exactly a year ago, Abidal went through surgery to remove a tumour from his liver. The player recovered and was able to lift up the last Champions League title in Wembley.

Barcelona (FCB).\u2013 The Barça defender Éric Abidal will have a liver transplant. The surgery will take place in the next few weeks. FC Barcelona medical services have issued a medical communiqué this Thursday morning announcing the news concerning Abidal\u2019s health. The French defender went through a previous surgery to remove a tumour from his liver, exactly a year ago. According to the FC Barcelona, the liver transplant had been considered an option from the start of Abidal\u2019s treatment. Last season, Abidal recovered from March surgical intervention and was back in the squad in May, on time to play and win the Champions League final, held at Wembley. FC Barcelona captain, Carles Puyol, let Abidal the honour to lift the European Cup title. This season, Abidal has shown great performances in many games.


The FC Barcelona medical communiqué stated the following: \u201Cduring the next few weeks, the player will undergo a liver transplant as a result of the progress of his liver disease. A transplant was considered an option from the start of his treatment a year ago. At the express wishes of the player, the Club asks that the maximum respect for the player\u2019s privacy be observed.\u201D
