Éric Abidal declared fit to play after last year’s liver transplant

FC Barcelona player Éric Abidal is once again available for Barça’s first team selection after recovering from a liver transplant last April. The Frenchman received the wonderful news after Thursday’s training session. In fact, since the 19th December, Abidal has been training with the rest of Barça players. In early October, he went with FC Barcelona physio Emili Ricart to spend several days in the Catalan mountains at the Vall d’Aran County, in the heart of the Pyrenees, to follow a specific training programme.

Barcelona (FCB).- Following Barça’s training this morning, Éric Abidal received the wonderful news that he is in good enough condition to play for FC Barcelona’s first team in what remains of the current season. The French defender underwent a liver transplant in Barcelona's Hospital Clínic on April 10, 2012.


It has been a long road to recovery for Abidal ever since. In early October, he went with FC Barcelona physio Emili Ricart to spend several days in the Catalan mountains at the Vall d’Aran County. In the Catalan Pyerenees, he started following a specific training programme. Two months later, on December 19, he was able to train with the rest of the squad.

Abidal has not played for the first team since February 26, 2012 away to Atlético Madrid, when FCB won 2-1.
