The Catalan government announced on Monday that it will allocate 20 million euros to provide emergency grants of 200 euros to some 300,000 people who are still waiting to receive unemployment benefits.

The payment will apply to people who have lost at least 30% of their income due to the health crisis, with the aim that the injection of cash is spent on basic necessities.

The emergency payment, which can be applied for online next week, is aimed at workers who have been temporarily or permanently laid off and self-employed people whose activity has fallen due to the crisis.

The Autòno+ Barcelona grant is aimed at those people who already receive the state aid payment of 661 euros and is a one-off payment that can be applied for on the council website from May 20.
