Barcelona is reopening its beaches to the public. From Friday, May 8, people will be able to practice sports individually and swimming but only in the morning permitted hours to practice exercise, that is, between the hours of 6-10 am.

The beaches will be open only to accredited professional sportspeople during the evening exercise slots.

Recreational activities will not be permitted, while the showers and changing rooms will remain closed.

Each beach will have two access points to regulate access and avoid large crowds of people, while local police will be monitoring the areas strictly.

Spokesperson for the city council who announced the new measures, Jordi Oliveras, appealed for “responsibility” from citizens to ensure that the reopening of the public spaces goes smoothly and without incident.

No lifeguards will be working during the hours either, and as such, Oliveras reminds people to call 112 in the event of any emergency, while also encouraging people not to put themselves in any risk.
