Out of the three million coronavirus vaccine doses administered so far in Catalonia, only 30 have gone to pregnant women, according to data from health authorities.

They were either essential workers such as health professionals, or had a higher risk of contracting the virus or developing severe symptoms, and the potential risks and benefits were evaluated in each case.

Health authorities are hoping for more comprehensive studies on the issue, which could be carried out when the vaccine rollout reaches age groups with higher pregnancy rates from June.

In the meantime, experts speaking to the Catalan News Agency recommend seeking medical advice before making a decision to vaccinate or not as a pregnant woman.
