Thousands participate in Catalan activities at the Warsaw Book Fair

At this year’s edition of the Warsaw Book Fair, where Barcelona along with Catalan culture and literature were guests of honour, 1,700 people attended activities meant to promote the culture of the region. The activities were organised by the Institut Ramon Llull (IRL), which is a public institution in charge of promoting Catalan culture and language. A total of 72,000 visitors attended the Book Fair, which was held from the 19th to the 22nd of May. 800 booths from 25 different countries participated in the cultural event, and the booth specifically dedicated to Catalan literature saw the participation of 580 people in its activities. The activities were led by a coalition of Catalan writers composed of Sebastià Alzamora, Blanca Busquets, Jaume Cabré, Jenn Díaz, Rafel Nadal, Marc Pastor, Jordi Puntí, Care Santos, Màrius Serra and Jordi Sierra i Fabra, whose goal was to promote Catalan literature and contemporary creation.

Barcelona (CNA).- 1,700 people participated in activities organised by the public institution in charge of promoting Catalan culture and language Institut Ramon Llull (IRL) at this year’s Warsaw Book Fair, where the guests of honour were Catalan literature and Catalan writers. The Book Fair, which was held from the 19th to the 22nd of May, brought together 72,000 visitors, along with 800 booths from 25 different countries. Catalan literature, a first-time visitor to the fair, was represented by a stand, at which 580 people dropped by and participated in activities. The Catalan programme was represented by a delegation of ten Catalan writers, formed by Sebastià Alzamora, Blanca Busquets, Jaume Cabré, Jenn Díaz, Rafel Nadal, Marc Pastor, Jordi Puntí, Care Santos, Màrius Serra and Jordi Sierra i Fabra. Among the activities presented were presentations, dialogues and discussions between authors and book signings. Other themes discussed were ‘Barcelona Literary Scene’ and ‘Literary City of Barcelona UNESCO’. The main objective was to highlight Catalan literature and contemporary creation.

Participation and exposure to Catalan culture and literature, seeking to highlight contemporary creation, was led by a delegation of Catalan writers formed by Sebastià Alzamora, Blanca Busquets, Jaume Cabré, Jenn Díaz, Rafel Nadal, Marc Pastor, Jordi Puntí, Care Santos, Màrius Serra and Jordi Sierra i Fabra.

The Catalan programme at the Book Fair in Warsaw contained new presentations, dialogues between authors and book signings. The events programme was framed between a professional and a literary programme. ‘Barcelona Literary Scene’ and ‘Literary City of Barcelona UNESCO’ were some of the topics discussed during several meetings and discussions.

In addition, the Warsaw Book Fair also hosted a professional meeting for students of the Krakow literary translation seminar, also organised by the IRL, which held its first session from the 21st to the 23rd of March at the Jagiellonian University of Krakow, also a UNESCO City of Literature.
