Barcelona (FCB).- FC Barcelona and Santos FC have agreed to terms for Neymar da Silva Junior. The Brazilian forward will be wearing the Blaugrana kit for the next five seasons.

The 21-year old is one of the most promising footballers on the planet. His pace and skill on the ball make him a player who can turn a game at any moment. Neymar, who was born in Sao Paulo, can play either in the centre of attack or drift out towards the wings. He’s equally at home with both feet whether dribbling or shooting.

Pelé’s blessing

All these qualities, together with the fact that he’s Brazilian and came up through the Santos academy, have brought him frequent comparisons with Pelé, and neither man has ever hidden their mutual admiration. Just like 'O'Rei' in his day, Neymar is the outstanding player in a talented Santos side (making his debut in 2009) and in the Brazilian national team. He is the man all Brazilians hope will lead their country to win the 2014 World Cup, which is being held in Brazil.

Many awards

The comparison with Pelé is no exaggeration. Despite his youth, Neymar has received plenty of recognition from his peers. He was nominated for the 2012 and 2011 FIFA Golden Ball and for the 2012, 2011 and 2010 Puskas Award for the best goal of the year. He was also elected Best South American Player 2011, the youngest ever to win this accolade. Santos is enjoying a tremendous run of success with him in the side and has won the last three Paulista Championships plus the 2011 Copa Libertadores, when Neymar also picked up the award for best player of the tournament.

The 2011 World Club Cup

As champions of South America, Santos took part in the World Club Cup in 2011. Neymar scored a beautiful goal in the semi-finals but could do nothing to stop Barça lifting the trophy in the final. Barça produced one of their best performances under Pep Guardiola and stormed to a 4-0 victory. Neymar was chosen as the third best player of the tournament behind Messi and Xavi.
