The Catalan government has issued warnings for snow, heavy winds, and floods ahead of the hazardous storm expected this weekend.

Interior ministry officials called for "extreme caution" and urged people to stay at home and avoid traveling.

After causing freezing temperatures and heavy snows in other Spanish regions, the ‘Filomena’ storm is moving up towards Catalonia, with the most severe weather conditions expected on Saturday.

The first snows could arrive in southern Catalonia on Friday night, also affecting towns at the sea level, and it is expected that in the early hours of Saturday all of Catalonia will be feeling the effects of the storm.

Mountains in the southern region of Tarragona could see snow accumulations of over 30 cm, and waves could surpass 5 meters in height.
