A fire in the port of Barcelona occurred on Wednesday morning after a ship crashed with a loading crane, which collapsed and led to a small fire.

The incident left four containers damaged, but caused no injuries, although people and lorries in the area were nevertheless evacuated.

A moorer who saw and filmed the fire put the blame on the wind, the severe sea and the bad weather conditions.

The witness said that the ship, which usually transports passengers and cargo, was approaching the port faster than usual.

“We don’t know why it was going so fast, I guess due to the wind, to control the ship,” he said.

The black smoke was seen on Barcelona’s Ronda Litoral ringroad, but it did not affect the traffic during the peak hour.
