Traffic on all Rodalies Renfe commuter trains resumed around midday after an incident in Barcelona caused delays on various train lines.

The incident was reported in the Plaça Catalunya tunnels in Barcelona on Thursday morning.

The lines affected by the incident have been R1 (Hospitalet de Llobregat - Maçanet Massanes), R2 (Granollers Centre- Castelldefels), R2 Nord (Maçanet Massanes- Aeroport), R3 (Hospitalet de Llobregat- Puigcerdà), and R4 (Sant Vicenç de Calders- Manresa).

Commuters - and Catalan politicians - complain of frequent breakdowns and delays on the network.

Catalan president Pere Aragonès stated once again on Thursday that the transfer of control over the Rodalies network from Spain to Catalonia was "a necessity" and that the situation was "a permanent disorder."

Aragonès wrote on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, in response to a post made by territory minister Ester Capella, where she explained that "of the 24 days of August so far, there have been incidents on 23."
