Catalan universities will hold lectures online from Thursday, due to the sharp increase in Covid-19 transmissions in the past few days.

The government urged companies and universities to operate remotely for the next two weeks in an effort to curb the surge in coronavirus infections, which they see as "extremely worrying".

This week further restrictions affecting all of Catalonia will be implemented, as residents have been asked to "sacrifice" their social life.

On Tuesday, cabinet sources confirmed to the Catalan News Agency (ACN) that in a meeting of the council that includes all universities (CIC), an agreement was reached to continue with in-person activities on Tuesday and Wednesday, but switch to online teaching from Thursday.

Yet, activities where remote working is not possible, such as lab work, will continue as before.
