The people of Barcelona have returned to the sands and waves on Friday morning, after the city council reopened the beaches to the public on Thursday.

People are only allowed to practice individual sport and only during the morning permitted exercise hours, between 6-10 am.

On the first day of the reopening of the beach, the public cautiously returned, and plenty of space was available to maintain safe distances between one another.

The beach is reserved for accredited professional athletes during the evening exercise time slots of 8-11 pm.

Local police closely monitored the area and gave warnings to some people who were sunbathing and relaxing, as the beaches are only supposed to be used for exercise at this time.

No lifeguards were working, and no showers or changing rooms were available to use.
