Of the new 151 racist incidents identified by SOS Racisme in 2018, 36% were of discrimination or attacks carried out by individuals—for the first time surpassing those by law enforcement officials.

According to platform leaders, there is a certain lack of community effort to prevent these situations causing this growth, but they also warn that xenophobic narratives from some political parties “are translated into day to day life,” and are subsequently “normalizing” racist scenarios.

Another novelty is an increase in incidences of racism, 151 (out of 354 cases seen). Over a third of these (55) were attacks and discrimination between individuals, 22 discrimination in private services (primarily in places of leisure), 21 discrimination in access to social rights and 20 discrimination and attacks perpetrated by law enforcement or security officials.
