INTERACTIVE MAP: 17 speed cameras in Barcelona start to sanction from today
Speed limit near schools set at 30 km/h
Barcelona's 17 new speed cameras came in to full operation on Monday, with sanctions for drivers after four months of tests.
The speed limit has been set to 30 km/h near schools, while five speed camaras will monitor areas deemed "dangerous" due to speeding.
The four months of testing started in September and allowed drivers to become aware of the new speed limits and the location of these speed cameras, as the city council explained in a statement.
Since October, drivers surpassing those speed limits received a letter informing them about the new legislation, but no fines had been issued.
