FC Barcelona opens the Camp Nou stadium to the ‘Catalan Way’ 400-km human chain

On Wednesday, the 400 kilometre ‘Catalan Way’ human chain, which calls for an independent Catalonia, passes through FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium and into its stands. The Vice President of the sports club, Carles Vilarrubí, stated that Barça “always has its doors open to FC Barcelona fans and Catalans who want to express themselves”. He stated this following the flower offering that took place at the statue of Rafael Casanova during Catalonia’s National Day. Along with Vilarrubí, Barça’s delegation was headed by first team coach, Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino, defender Gerard Piqué as well as other first team players, technical staff and players from other sections.

Barcelona (ACN).- On Wednesday, the 400 kilometre ‘Catalan Way’ human chain, which calls for an independent Catalonia, passes through FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium and into its stands. The Vice President of the world-famous sports club, Carles Vilarrubí, stated that Barça “always has its doors open to FC Barcelona fans and Catalans who want to express themselves”. He stated this following the flower offering that took place at the statue of Rafael Casanova on the morning of Catalonia’s National Day. The FC Barcelona’s Vice President was also joined by the first team coach, Gerado ‘Tata’ Martino, Catalan defender Gerard Piqué, as well as other first team players, technical staff and players from other sections. According to Vilarrubí, “it is certain” that some directors and members of the club will form part of the ‘Catalan Way’ that will enter the Camp Nou stadium. The 400 kilometre long human chain links Catalonia from north to south with participants joining hands together in order to call for Catalan independence. The President of RCD Espanyol, Joan Collet, announced that the team is not officially part of the ‘Catalan Way’, although some of its directors and members may attend on their own accord.


FC Barcelona’s Vice President, Carles Vilarrubí, also highlighted the involvement of the new head coach of the team in the annual ceremonies and celebrations of Catalonia’s National Day. He noted how “Gerado has learned today a new dimension of what this country is like and what the National Day of Catalonia represents”.
