Esquerra leader Junqueras: 'Your votes can free us'
Esquerra Republicana members Raül Romeva and Oriol Junqueras appear at political rally from prison via video conference
The president of ERC and head of the list in the Spanish elections, Oriol Junqueras, has implored supporters to go out and win the Spanish elections because the votes can "free all of [the jailed Catalan leaders.]"
In a campaign event in Cambrils, appearing via videoconferencing from prison, Junqueras asked voters to "embarrass" those who have prosecuted the Catalan leaders for the 2017 independence push.
Junqueras also called on citizens to vote Esquerra Republicana to "do better for our country and society".
"Mobilize people, make the mobilization more massive than ever, and that the ballot boxes are filled with votes of freedom," the Esquerra leader exclaimed.
Junqueras was accompanied by the candidate for the Senate, Raül Romeva, who is also facing persecution in the Catalan trial.
Romeva has called for a "massive", "excited" and "determined" vote for the republican party to build a country for “everyone”. "Whoever says we have resigned is lying," exclaimed Romeva.
