Vice president and partner in isolation after equality minister confirmed to have covid-19
Spain's equality minister Irene Montero has tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday, for which her partner and second vice president, Pablo Iglesias, is now in quarantine.
Ayer noté síntomas. Me han hecho la prueba del COVID-19 y he dado positivo. Voy a permanecer en casa con mi familia y desarrollando mi trabajo por medios telemáticos hasta que lo indiquen las autoridades sanitarias. Me encuentro bien.— Irene Montero (@IreneMontero) March 12, 2020
The other Spanish cabinet members will be tested for covid-19 Thursday morning and will officially announce their results in the evening.
As for the cabinet meeting that is due to take place midday, only the ministers that are considered "essential" for approving the government's action plan in response to the crisis will be there.
Spanish president Pedro Sánchez will hold a press conference after the cabinet meeting, but it will only be streamed online and journalists will have to send in their questions.
