Choosing a book is quite complicated, especially on Sant Jordi (Saint George) on April 23, as many are displayed in stands on the streets. Right beside these books, there are usually authors ready to sign them non-stop for their fans who have been queuing for, in some cases, hours.

Sant Jordi is Catalonia's day of love, where people exchange gifts of roses and books with their loved ones and many take the opportunity to meet their favorite local or international authors.

Each year, bookstores and publishing houses schedule book signings and talks with these authors at the stands across Barcelona's streets.

This year, many international writers will be there, such as Irish John Boyne, globally renowned for his book 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas,' but also Camilla Läckberg and Henrik Fexeus from Sweden, Sari Arponen from Finland, Claudio Stassi from Italy, and Robin Sharma from Canada, to mention a few.

The vast majority of authors signing books on Sant Jordi will be on or around Passeig de Gràcia boulevard as the roads will be closed to traffic and many bookstores will have stalls in the area. Check out this map to better know the location of the key places mentioned in the list of authors.

Catalan and Spanish authors worth checking out

Sant Jordi is not only about international authors but also Catalan and Spanish ones, such as Eva Baltasar, who has been shortlisted for the 2023 International Booker Prize for her novel 'Boulder.'

Baltasar will be signing books on Sunday, but others include Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar, poet Juana Dolores, trans activist Elizabeth Duval, and the authors of, so far, the most sold books in Catalonia at the moment.

Among them are culture journalist Gemma Ruiz, journalist Xavier Bosch, economist Xavier Sala i Martin, the 'La Sotana' football journalists known for their weekly podcast, and true crime journalist and radio presenter Carles Porta.
