Sirât received two BAFTA shortlist nominations on Friday night: one for Best Non-English Language Film and another for Best Casting.

These shortlisted films will now progress to the second round of voting to determine the final nominations, which will be announced on 27 January.

The Catalan co-production by Oliver Laxe will compete, among others, against The Secret Agent, which already won the award at the Critics' Choice Awards.

Other films in the running against Sirât include Sentimental Value, It Was Just an Accident, La Grazia, and No Other Choice.

In the casting category, the film will face competition from, among others, Paul Thomas Anderson's latest hit, One Battle After Another, which leads the nominations with a total of 16.

Following this are Sinners and Hamnet with 14 nominations each, and Marty Supreme with 13.

The BAFTA Film Awards ceremony will take place on February 22.

In December, Sirât was already shortlisted for the Oscars in five categories: Best International Feature Film, Sound, Cinematography, Casting, and Original Score.

The film also received two Golden Globe nominations: Best Non-English Language Film and Best Original Score.

Led by Catalan actor Sergi López and released in cinemas last June, the film is shaping up to be one of the standout Catalan and Spanish productions of the year.

Sirât tells the story of a father who ventures into the Moroccan mountains in an apocalyptic world of raves, accompanied by his son, in search of his missing daughter.
