Netflix offers its first series dubbed in Catalan
Streaming service adds Catalan option to anime 'Cardcaptor Sakura'
Global video streaming service Netflix has for the first time included the soundtrack in Catalan for a series that was not made in Catalonia.
'Cardcaptor Sakura' is an anime series that was shown on Catalan television in the early 2000s, the first two seasons of which are available on Netflix.
The service included the Catalan soundtrack this week after a Twitter user pointed out that the audio was not available despite having existed for a number of years.
'Cardcaptor Sakura' tells the story of a young girl who gains special powers after she breaks the seal of a magical book and releases the spirits of the cards inside.
Other examples without Catalan audio option
‘Inuyasha’, ‘Evangelion’ and ‘Cowboy Bebop’ are other series on Netflix that were shown on Catalan television that are still only available in Japanese and Spanish.
While 'Cardcaptor Sakura' is the first series made abroad available in Catalan, Netflix has a number of series, films and documentaries for which the language is an option.
The series ‘Merlí’, ‘Benvinguts a la família’, ‘Si no t’hagués conegut’ and ‘Les de l’hoquei’, which were all made in Catalonia, can be watched on Netflix in Catalan.
The films ‘Incerta glòria’ and ‘La propera pell’ are also available in Catalan, while the documentaries ‘Dues Catalunyes’ and ‘Little Miss Sumo’ have Catalan subtitles.
