Dalí museums receive 8% more visitors in 2010

The Gala Dalí Castle in Púbol (in the Costa Brava interior land) recorded the biggest increase with 21% more tourists than last year. The most visited museum was the Theatre-Museum Dalí in Figueres, in the Alt Empordà County, near the French border.

Girona (CNA) .- The Dalí Museums received a total of 1,330,525 visitors in 2010 representing an increase of 8.16% on the previous year. The museum par excellence, the Theatre-Museum Dalí in Figueres received 881,405 visitors representing an increase of 5.16% on 2009. The most visited gallery was ‘Dali-Jewels’ which is located inside the grounds of the museum in Figueres. 236,816 visitors passed through last year, a 17.49% increase on the previous one. The Gala Dalí Castle in Púbol received 106,196 visitors, 21% more than in 2009 and the Portlligat house museum in Cadaqués, welcomed 106,105 visitors, a 3.27% more than last year.


The Salvador Dalí Foundation has evaluated these figures in a very positive manner as they confirm an upward trend in all four areas in 2009 compared to 2008 when the increase was only 3.4%. This year, the overall increase was 8% with some areas like ‘Dalí-Jewels’ and the Gala Dalí Castle in Púbol experiencing very high growth.

Not all Dalí museums are open for the 12 months of the year. The Salvador Dalí Portlligat house museum in Cadaqués opens on 9 February and the Gala Dalí Castle in Púbol on 13 March 2010.
