Barcelona (CNA).- The Catalan capital will be the first European stop on ‘The River Tour 2016’, which commemorates the 35th anniversary of the release of the album ‘The River’, one of The Boss’ most iconic records. Together with the E Street Band, Springsteen will perform at Camp Nou on the 14th of May and will offer two more shows in Spain; one in San Sebastian and the other in Madrid. Tickets for the Barcelona show will go on sale on the 1st of March, with prices ranging from 80 euros to 115 euros for reserved seats. Springsteen’s relationship with Barcelona has proved to be very special. Besides including Barcelona on his world tours on many occasions, the Catalan capital also hosted a double concert on the E Street Band reunion world tour, in 1999, and in 2002 ‘Live in Barcelona’ was the first Springsteen album to be recorded outside of the United States.

‘The River Tour 2016’ started in Pittsburgh on the 16th of January and The Boss performed the whole album, one of the most iconic of his career. At the end of last year, Springsteen released ‘The Ties That Bind: The River Collection’, a box set containing four CDs, three DVDs and a book with more than 200 never-seen-before pictures. The box set, released to commemorate the release of ‘The River’ in 1980, included 52 songs, some of them new, which were had been discarded from the original album’s final tracklist.

A few days ago, Springsteen also announced that he will publish his autobiography on the 27th of September.

Springsteen’s close relationship with Barcelona

Barcelona has been the only tour date in Spain for many international artists. In 2015, Madonna, U2, Bjork, Lady Gaga and Beyoncé, to name but a few, chose the Catalan capital to present their latest albums and in many cases offered more than one concert. During the first half of 2016, Adele’s only tour date in Spain will also be in Barcelona.

However, Bruce Springsteen deserves special mention. He has visited Barcelona more than 12 times since 1981 and some of the concerts have been real milestones. The Catalan capital hosted a double concert on the E Street Band reunion world tour, in 1999, and in 2002 ‘Live in Barcelona’ was the first Springsteen album to be recorded outside of the United States.

The last time The Boss visited Barcelona was in 2012, when he performed a double show during ‘The Wrecking ball’ tour.
