Barcelona (CNA).- Vueling has gained a profit of 7.1 million euros in the first semester of the year thanks to its fusion with Clickair in spite of the increase in fuel prices and the dollar and the negative effects of volcanic ash cloud. This information suggests that the airline has cut losses, given that in the same period of 2009 it registered a negative profit of more than 5 million euros. As Vueling briefed to the National Stock Market Commission (CNMV), its income has increased 97%, reaching 352 million euros.
In the second term of the year, the total income has grown 100% compared to the same period of 2009 thanks to the increase of 102% in the number of passengers even though the total income of passengers has fallen by 1%.

At Barcelona’s El Prat Airport, Vueling has transported 80% more passengers than its immediate competitor. Moreover, the company has affirmed that Barcelona, Seville and Bilbao are leading as their main markets.

According to the company, travel agency sales have increased after its fusion with Clickair and, in the second term of 2010, travel agency sales made up around 33% of the total sales.

The price of fuel has increased 52% in 1 year, while the exchange rate of the dollar has had a negative impact after the dollar appreciated. However, the airline has assured that its coverage policy for fuel and the dollar has reduced these effects.
