Nissan and union representatives have reached an agreement on manufacturing plant closures in Catalonia that would affect over 2,500 workers directly and thousands more indirectly.

The deal, the details of which are yet to be made public, was made after a 25-hour-long meeting between both parties and a week after the official negotiation period concluded.

One of the biggest points of contention between the company and workers was related to the management of surplus workers until the end of 2021, which is the when Nissan finally offered to close the plants in Barcelona's Zona Franca area as well as Montcada i Reixac and Sant Andreu de la Barca.

Unions stressed that all jobs must be maintained for as long as industrial activity is carried out at the factories.
