Multi-million euro support for internationalisation of Catalan fashion label Desigual

The fashion label Desigual based in Barcelona has obtained a €200 million line of credit from different banks. This financial support will be used to finance international expansion as well as plans for a new logistical centre in Vilamoura (Barcelona). Leading this investment is the Catalan bank CaixaBank, mostly owned by La Caixa. Under the slogan “Desigual – It’s not the same” the label wants to focus on continual improvements, innovation, engagement, tolerance, positivism and fun. Within this slogan now Desigual is trying to attain a more international status, enlarging its current team of 2,900 people from 72 different nationalities.

Barcelona (CNA). \u2013 The fashion label Desigual, based in Barcelona, has recently signed a contract that secures a multi-million euro credit line for the company. A group of banks have assured the label a \u20AC200 million credit extension. These negotiations were led by the Catalan bank CaixaBank, who acted as the financial operator. This loan consortium also includes institutions such as the Official Credit Institution (ICO), Banca March, BBVA, Banco Santander and the BNP Paribas Fortis.


The credit will finance the international expansion plan of Desigual between 2013 and 2018. As well as building a new logistics centre in Vilamoura (Barcelona), the plan also includes the idea of consolidating the company. In this process the label aspires to expand more in the area of Europe and to develop new markets especially in the regions of Asia and Latin America. The Desigual label itself explains that internationalisation and innovation are the kingpins for consolidating the company.

The Fashion Label Desigual

At the age of just 20 the Swiss Thomas Meyer imagined a future, in which people dressed differently following a fashion that evokes positive emotions and that everyone can afford. From this idea the Fashion Label Desigual was founded by Meyer in 1984. Two years later the first shop was opened in Ibiza. Nowadays it has its HQ in Barcelona and consists of a team of 2,900 people made up of 72 different nationalities.

Under the slogan \u201CDesigual \u2013 It\u2019s not the same\u201D the label wants to focus on continual improvements, innovation, engagement, tolerance, positivism and fun.

Reaching International Importance

Within this slogan now Desigual is trying to attain a more international status. To this end, the fashion label has signed a consortium loan for 200 million Euros over five years. This contract was closed between Desigual and a group of different banks such as the CaixaBank, Official Credit Institution (ICO), Banca March, BBVA, Santander Bank and the BNP Paribas Fortis. These contract negotiations were led by the Catalan bank CaixaBank, which acted as adjustor.
