There were 15,368 fewer people registered for unemployment in the month of May 2021 compared to the month before, leaving a total of 481,817 people without work, 0.28% fewer than the same month of 2020, a decrease of 1,332 people.

This figure means that there are now 120,859 more jobs in Catalonia compared to the year before, an increase of employment of 3.65%. May also say 37,363 more workers registered with social security, a monthly rise of 1.10%.

These numbers are according to data released by the Spanish Ministry of Labour and Social Economy on Tuesday.

Unemployment has now fallen for three months, as May closed with a 3.09% drop in the jobless rate, as well as the first year-on-year reduction in the figure seen during the entire pandemic.

On the other hand, temporary layoffs continue to decline, leaving 112,089 workers currently in this situation.

Across all of Spain, unemployment fell by 129,378 people in May compared to April, the highest monthly reduction of the figure.

There are now a total of 3,781,250 people without work in all of Spain, 76,526 fewer (-1.98%) than twelve months ago, when the first state of alarm and home confinement was still in force.
