Lleida (ACN).- The technology multinational Indra will create 75 new jobs in the region of Lleida, in north-east Catalonia. Indra recently opened a new Customer Centre in the Scientific and Technological Park, based in the town of Gardeny, near Lleida. Indra traditionally operated in this Catalan region and was the first company to ever open offices in the Park. Up to 205 people are working in Indra in Lleida.

The new Indra Customer Centre is mostly on-line, and provides client services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Centre will focus on helping international customers, offering services in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Catalan. The Customer Centre offices are within 600 square metres of Indra’s headquarters in the Park.

The CEO of Indra in Catalonia, Manel Brufau, and the mayor of Lleida, Àngel Ros, inaugurated the offices. Brufau said that Lleida is a place where ‘synergies’ are created between ‘civil society, universities and the park workers’. ‘Lleida is an ideal place for business; here we achieve the productivity and excellence necessary to provide a good service to our clients’.

Indra has demonstrated a great amount of interest in expanding its activities in Lleida. Currently, the multinational already runs a Centre for Technological Development there. It aims to become a world leader in the development of software and new technologies applied to agriculture.

Indra employs 205 people in Lleida and will expand its staff by 75 to fulfil the activities at the Customer Centre. The new job opportunities will be offered mainly to Lleida residents. Manel Brufau said that the hiring of new workers is ‘following its path gradually’.

The company has a cooperation agreement with the University of Lleida and the Adecco Foundation. Successful projects such as HeadMouse and VirtualKeyboard (available free on-line) have been possible thanks to this cooperation. Both projects have been downloaded 300.000 times from all over the world.

Indra is the leading technological multinational in Spain, and one of the best in Europe and Latin America. The company has the second highest investment in Research and Development in Europe, with up to 500 million euro spent in the last three years. In 2010, Indra’s international activities accounted for 40% of its overall activities.
