9-May-23: 'Empty housing units could be expropriated for social use'
The Catalan government is open to expropriating almost 200 empty housing units in 14 towns. The cabinet will take empty units unless owners put them up for social housing or prove they are not empty. The government will allocate 5 million euros to this process. Across Catalonia, there are almost 32,000 empty houses.
