The second edition of the Barcelona Deep Tech summit got underway on Tuesday with more than 75 experts and 50 start-up companies taking part.

The event offers solutions to problems in things such as climate change and chronic diseases by using complex technologies like bioengineering and artificial intelligence.

This year, the fair is held at the Fira de Barcelona congress hall, a step up from last year's Antiga Fàbrica Damm factory. Organizers expect to gather up to 2,000 people this time around, three times as many people as last year's edition.

"It's a sector that has the potential to have an enormous impact on society, the same or more than mobile technology," Aleix Valls, Head of Content of the summit, told the Catalan News Agency.
