The Catalan parliament has awarded its Medal of Honor in the Gold category to the FC Barcelona Femení football team on the back of winning their second Champions League title in 2022/23.

Last season also saw the blaugrana pick up their record 8th league title, which was also their 4th in a row.

Parliament speaker Anna Erra explained that with the awarding of the medal, the chamber wants to highlight "the work done by a group of athletes and a club for their contribution to the growth, recognition and professionalization of women's football."

The Catalan parliament wants to pay its appreciation to the club and the team for their role in "promoting the female side of this sport, to give it visibility, to help it grow and strengthen it."

Erra also emphasized the importance of the players giving references for children and young people, adding that they have helped "in building a fairer and more equal society."

The Barça women's team "has helped trigger a series of changes in the working conditions of the players, hardly imaginable not so long ago," the parliament speaker added.

The Gold Medal also wants to recognize the values of teamwork, respect, effort, perseverance, rigor, spirit of overcoming, responsibility, and camaraderie.

The president emphasized that the Gold Medal is also a "global thank you" to the hundreds of clubs, families, and people who started working decades ago to create women's football teams.

The parliament has awarded the Medal of Honor annually since 2000 to distinguish people or institutions for their achievements and accomplishments.
