The third stage of the 2023-2024 Ski Mountaineering World Cup will be held on January 27 and 28 in the government-run resort of Boí Taüll in the Catalan Pyrenees.

There are currently around 200 participants registered, including skiers and technicians from 27 countries, but organizers expect around 350 participants from some 30 countries.

The Tourism Department of the Catalan public railway operator, Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) manages the event, and its president said on Tuesday, that Boí Taüll is a “reference point" in the ski mountaineering world due to its “first-class” ski facilities and the valley’s cultural, historical and artistic heritage, among other things.

Segarra assured that the success of the event is “guaranteed”, since it will be the second consecutive year that the event will take place at the resort.

According to Segarra, this year’s competition will be a “litmus test” for the Catalan athletes before the 2026 Winter Olympics, which will be held in the Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo.

Two competitions

In fact, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided that the two ski competitions in Boí Taüll, Sprint and Mixed Relay, will also be part of the Winter Olympics.

The Sprint will be held practically without modifications with regard to the current format. It will be held on January 27, while the Mixed Relay will be held the following day.
