Imagine being asked where you were born and being able to reply: "in the middle of the street in Barcelona's Eixample neighborhood."

This will be the story of a recently born baby in the Catalan capital after her mother gave birth in Roger de Flor street on November 23 at 7 pm.

The 36-year-old expecting mother and her partner were walking down the street when she suddenly and quickly went into labor.

Both asked for the help of two law enforcement agents from Barcelona's Guàrdia Urbana police who were in the area.

Although the police had called for an ambulance, it was already too late for the mother, causing the Guàrdia Urbana officers to assist her during labor in the middle of the street.

The birth was fast and safe, and police waited beside the mother, the newborn child, and the father for the ambulance that was planning on driving them to the hospital to arrive.

On Monday afternoon, the law enforcement agents who took part in the birth visited the family who thanked them for their help.

This is not the first time a baby has been born in an unusual place in Barcelona. Early in June, a resident was on the metro on her way to Hospital del Mar to give birth but began to feel unwell and decided to hop off at the Ciutadella-Vila Olímpica station on the yellow L4 line.

There, she asked for help from Barcelona’s metropolitan public transport (TMB) staff before giving birth to her son in the metro station.
