Two people died following a chemical industry explosion in Barcelona that took place Tuesday afternoon.

The blast, which injured 19 people who have already been discharged, occurred at the Montsolís de la Verneda industrial estate on Via Trajana in the Sant Martí district in the north of the city.

Authorities have confirmed that one of the deceased was a person in a neighboring estate who was hit by the debris that were projected in the explosion.

Another person who worked at the plant where the explosion took place was found under the rubble on Wednesday.

The fire service was at the scene and the Catalan Civil Protection Agency enacted the 'Plaseqcat' emergency response plan.

In February, three people died as a result of an explosion and fire at a chemical plant in Tarragona in the south of Catalonia.
