Healthcare professionals and doctors being able to consult with experts in the field about the diagnoses and treatment of complex cases – especially those of epilepsy – through telemedicine, using tools like videoconferencing.

This is the aim of a project now joined by two Catalan hospitals – the Hospital del Mar and Hospital Clínic-Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona, as well as the Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La fe in Valencia.

The project is run on a European scale, put forth by the European Commission, and it’s the “most advanced telemedicine system in existence in Europe,” according to the director of the epilepsy unit at the Hospital del Mar.

And for those who are worried about the communication of their personal information, the system also guarantees “the confidentiality” of all patients, says Mar Carreño of the Hospital Clínic-Sant Joan de Déu.
