Police confirm buried woman in northern Catalonia was victim of gender-based violence

Catalan Mossos d'Esquadra police have confirmed the identity of a buried woman found in Torallola, in the Conca de Dalt municipality in the northern county of Pallars Jussà. Mossos also confirmed she was a victim of gender-based violence.

The 28-year-old woman is believed to have been in a relationship with the alleged perpetrator, who is under preventive prison

The gender-based violence crime was confirmed once the DNA results were released, which confirmed the identity of the victim. She was born in Barcelona metropolitan area, but she had been living in the Catalan Pyrenees for some years now. 

The arrested, who has 46 years, has a criminal record, and is in provisional jail without bail for the events that took place last summer. 

The Catalan equality and feminism ministry has condemned the attack

This gender-based violence increased the number of victims to 14 in 2023, and 127 since the first records from 2012. 

This 2023, there have been seven new orphans, and 91 in the last decade because of gender-based violence crimes.
