Peace activists Yael Admi and Reem Alhajajra receive 2025 International Catalonia Prize
Catalan government honours Israeli and Palestinian human rights defenders for their "commitment to reconciliation"

The Catalan government will award the 2025 International Catalonia Prize to Israeli and Palestinian peace activists Yael Admi and Reem Alhajajra.
The award recognises the collaboration between the two activists through Mother's Call, a cross-border, women-led initiative calling for an end to violence.
The prize honours their "sustained commitment to reconciliation, dialogue, and the construction of a shared future of peace in the Middle East."
The government also highlighted that, amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, the two activists represent "a symbol of hope in the midst of a long and painful conflict."
In a statement, the executive described Mother’s Call as a "brave commitment to peace that underscores the essential role of women as builders of a shared future."
Mother's Call is both a manifesto and a movement created by two organisations: Women Wage Peace, led by Yael Admi and formed by Israeli women advocating for peace, and Women of the Sun, led by Reem Alhajajra and made up of Palestinian women with the same goal.
Based on the belief that all mothers, regardless of their side, seek to protect their children and ensure them a future without war, the initiative uses motherhood as a shared language to transcend political, religious, and national boundaries.
The movement calls for an immediate end to the cycle of violence, the launch of a negotiated political process between the parties, and guarantees of security, freedom, dignity, and equality for both peoples, as well as the active inclusion of women in peace processes.
So far, the initiative has taken shape through joint manifestos, marches, and public events bringing together Israeli and Palestinian women, alongside international awareness campaigns.
Admi and Alhajajra will receive the prize on January 15 at an official ceremony at the Catalan government headquarters, presided over by president Salvador Illa.
