One person died and another is still missing following a chemical industry explosion in Barcelona that took place Tuesday afternoon.

The blast, which left 19 people injured, occurred at the Montsolís de la Verneda industrial estate on Via Trajana in the Sant Martí district in the north of the city.

Authorities have confirmed that the deceased was a person in a neighboring estate who was hit by debris that were projected in the explosion.

The fire service is also attending the scene, and the Catalan Civil Protection Agency has enacted the 'Plaseqcat' emergency response plan.

In February, three people died as a result of an explosion and fire at a chemical plant in Tarragona in the south of Catalonia.
