Catalonia is on yellow and orange warnings for intense cold weather throughout the region.

The meteorological service Meteocat has activated the alert for January 14 and 15 with minimal temperatures below zero degrees to be expected.

Monday morning was the coldest of the winter, Meteocat says, with frosts and temperatures as low as -5ºC. In Prades, Baix Camp, the minimum was -11,9ºC, a temperature not seen since 2017.

In Ulldemolins, temperatures plummeted to -7.2ºC, also the lowest recorded in 8 years.

For Tuesday, the meteorological alert is activated at level 4 out of 6 for the larger part of Catalonia with the exception of the Barcelona area, Garraf, Baix Llobregat and municipalities close to the Pyrenees.

Temperatures will be between 4 and -8ºC throughout the territory on Tuesday morning with warmer peaks on the coastline and throughout the day.

In Girona and Lleida, the temperatures will get as low as -6ºC on Tuesday.

The alert is set at a risk level 3 for Wednesday in central parts of Catalonia, with the alert lowered to levels 1 and 2 for the north-western part of the territory.

Morning frosts are to be expected this week although temperatures should get warmer during the afternoons.
