The labour union, Comissions Obreres, started an indefinite sit-in to denounce new layoffs at the Camp Nou construction site. The sit-in started on Wednesday at 7:45 a.m. in front of La Masia, FC Barcelona’s youth training center.

According to CCOO, serious rights violations are increasing at the new Camp Nou construction site. Workers from Ekstreme Works, subcontracted by Limak, and workers from Ramstar say they have not received their wages. They also claim they were dismissed after demanding their rights.

The workers from Ramstar have also allegedly been pressured to immediately leave the hostel where they have been living for almost two years. “We are facing a recurring pattern of labor exploitation affecting dozens of migrant workers”  CCOO states.

In November last year, complaints were filed by the labor union over the dismissal of undocumented workers.

CCOO points to Limak's direct responsibility of the workers as the main contractor, but also denounces that FC Barcelona cannot continue to look the other way. As the project's promoter and owner, the club is responsible for ensuring that the construction of its stadium is not carried out at the expense of labor exploitation.

The union demands immediate action from the Labour Inspectorate due to the serious and repeated violations of labor, social security regulations, occupational safety and health standards.

CCOO also urges the Barcelona City Council to intervene urgently as the competent authority. The union is demanding that the city council act as an immediate mediator in the conflict and, if a solution is not reached, suspend the building permit of Camp Nou.

FC Barcelona’s stadium is expected to be fully finished by late 2027, although it has recorded several delays in the past.
