In the Costa Brava town of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, 50,000 free face masks are being distributed to residents.

The local council is mailing out two masks for each family member.

The mayor of the coastal town, Carles Motas, explained that at the start of the week they set up in a sports center, packing envelopes with the masks, and that he expects they will be finished by next week.

Motas criticized the higher administrations for not making "masks mandatory in enclosed spaces." The Sant Feliu de Guíxols council is recommending that the face masks are worn by the public.

Free masks from pharmacies

People living in Catalonia are entitled to pick up a free mask from their local pharmacy after the Catalan government bought 14 million protective masks.

In the Spanish government lockdown exit plan, the wearing of masks outdoors is advised throughout all four phases.
