The Barcelona city council has reached a "historical high" with their allocation of 7.07 million euros towards collaborative and educational projects working towards global justice. This is an increase of over 100,000 euros from its 2019 budget.

The 2020 budget has also created a new category for social projects that focus specifically on environmental justice. This keeps in trend with the city council's various actions to address the climate emergency

This new category was implemented in hopes of creating more awareness surrounding the climate emergency, both locally and globally. The Barcelona climate plan also allotted 200,000 euros for grants aimed at funding projects focused on the environment.

Requirements for projects to be considered include at least three organizations supporting a proposal, one of which must include the BCN sustainability network. Interested parties can submit a maximum of four digital applications by February 27th to be considered for a grant.
